Saca backs special courts to tackle maras

Mara gang members accused of violent crime will now go before special judges selected by the supreme court. El Salvador's President Tony Saca this week ratified the "law against organised crime", which aims to expedite cases of organised crime, including drug-trafficking and corruption, in the 14 departments by creating specialist courts. Saca is also poised to approve a law prohibiting the possession of arms in municipalities afflicted by high levels of crime.
